Helen Rivera-Gonzales is a long time resident of Las Vegas, NM. She is the proud owner of El Sombrero Restaurant. She began working at El Sombrero around 20yrs ago as a waitress. The owners later decided to sell the restaurant and Helen Rivera-Gonzales made the decision to purchase El Sombrero becoming the new owner.

Helen said "My customers are like family. They have been coming to the restaurant for many years." She mentioned most of her customers are locals but she does get some tourists.

Helen not only enjoys her customer's presence but she gives back every year during the holiday season. El Sombrero restaurant offers a free Thanksgiving dinner to families in the community. Helen said "My mom always said never deny the food and my husband says the same thing." She treats her customers with love just as she cooks her food.

Helen said she is honored and excited to be selected as the 2019 Grand Marshal by Mayor Tonita Gurulé-Girón. She feels there are many others in the community that deserve such an honor. Helen said she was surprised to be selected as the Grand Marshal.

Fiestas de Las Vegas will celebrate 131 years with fireworks, light show, FREE entertainment, La Reina Y Reinita dance, parade, rodeo, pet parade, fishing derby and much more. Don't forget to stop by El Sombrero and enjoy some great home cooking.
