#54 22nd Annual Polar Bear Plunge
Are you brave enough to take the plunge?
If you’re not nursing a hangover (or maybe if you are) and a little cold water doesn’t scare you, come out New Year’s Day to the Las Vegas, N.M. 22nd Annual Polar Bear Plunge. Started as dare by a couple of Las Vegas Sunrise Kiwanis members, the event grew from seven crazy people jumping the fence at Storrie Lake State Park to an organized event, attended last year by over a hundred (still crazy) folks. If you’re concerned about the 33-degree water, don’t worry, there will be divers, law enforcement, an ambulance, state park employees and media outlets. So even if you’re not one of the brave, it’s still fun to cheer on the participants! And after the plunge, ring in the new year with some hot chocolate, and shop Las Vegas’ historic and merchant districts, and antique shops.
When: January 1st, 12:00 noon.
Where: Storrie Lake State Park. NM 518,
approximately three miles north of historic Las Vegas, N.M.
